The purpose of these special ticket schemes is to provide access to metropolitan public transport systems for older and handicapped people with little money so as to encourage them to take part in the life of the city. The Metropolitan Pink Card in Barcelona and the Metropolitan Pink Season Ticket the municips of the EMT ambit help to achieve this. Entitat Metropolitana del Transport (EMT) also works to introduce improvements to the public transport system which facilitate journeys by handicapped people as a way of integrating them into society. Measures in this line include the creation of the Passi Metropolità d'Acompanyant.
